Mauricio Pochettino has said it would be “crazy” if he was left out of Chelsea’s decision on new signings in the January transfer window.

The Blues plan to strengthen their squad during the winter transfer window in order to improve their disappointing first part of the season. Pochettino’s side sit 10th in the Premier League table with just seven wins from 19 matches, despite spending hugely since new co-owner Todd Boehly took the reins in 2022.

Pochettino insists he will have influence over the transfer decision-making process, telling reporters: “Obviously the head coach, the coach or the manager… it’s crazy to think he won’t be involved in decisions going forward. Of course we will share with the owners, the sporting directors, but I cannot conceive the idea of not being involved. »

Pochettino was appointed Chelsea manager over the summer, and much of the squad’s comings and goings had already been decided by the time he was in charge. He said in September that he was already identifying potential targets for January, while it was reported in October that the former PSG boss would have full control of transfer policy. A daring request given the Blues’ organization chart.
