Chelsea, the big scare at Luton

After leading by three goals, Chelsea shook at the end of the match on the Luton pitch, but still won (2-3).

Nothing is definitely simple for this Chelsea team. In the 70th minute, we were ready to write that the Blues were doing much better. Mauricio Pochettino’s men, after their victory against Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening, quietly led 3-0 on the Luton pitch.

Already decisive against Palace, Noni Madueke scored a very nice goal with a powerful strike without an angle (0-2, 37th). And Cole Palmer, author of the opening score on a missed restart from the former Marseillais Issa Kaboré (0-1, 12th), had signed another little gem in the counter-attack, displaying his technical ease on an opening of Nicolas Jackson (0-3, 70th). Week after week, the former Manchester City man confirms that he is Chelsea’s unexpected best recruit this season.

A storm on the Chelsea goal at the end of the match

But there was this rather crazy end to the match, with a Luton team which laid siege to the goals of Djordje Petrovic, the very good interim goalkeeper of the Blues. After a goal denied to Adebayo (74th), the resurrected Ross Barkley placed a victorious header against his former club (1-3, 80th), then Elijah Adebayo scored a goal this time valid (2-3, 87th).

In the meantime, we must add two strikes on the bar for Luton, and multiple hot situations in the Chelsea area, which took quite a storm in the last quarter of an hour. At least, this will prevent the Blues from catching a big head with what looks like a positive start to the series for the 10th in the ranking…
