Former FC Barcelona coach César Menotti spoke about the case of Xavi, whose situation at Camp Nou is becoming complicated.
Xavi’s state of grace at Barcelona is over. In recent weeks, the Catalan coach has even been going through a real zone of turbulence. Some voices are being raised to demand his departure.
Menotti wants to give Xavi another chance
Among the club’s veterans, however, we would rather be in favor of keeping it. César Luis Menotti, who managed the Blaugrana in the 1980s, believes he remains the man for the job due to his deep links with the club.
“I think that with someone who knows the history of Barcelona as a player, it is possible that he can restore the relationship between the people, the players and the coach, which was half absent,” he confided in an interview with Tribal Football.
The 1978 world champion coach then affirmed that the current squad is sufficiently rich in talent to bounce back. “Everyone who is at Barcelona today is a great player, even if the club does not have a leading figure like Messi, Maradona or Cruyff back then.”
Finally, Menotti called on the members to support their coach and support him as they did with him at the time. “ We must begin to recognize that there is a profound deculturation in society. In football, it happened a long time ago. When I was Barcelona coach, I walked into a place, I was never asked for an autograph, but I was greeted like I was born in Barcelona and it’s not like I had won ten championships »he concluded.
