Cristiano Ronaldo is not among the ten best players of the year 2023 according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.
With no less than 53 goals scored in 2023, Cristiano Ronaldo – who still has one match to play this year, Saturday evening in the Saudi Pro League – is the most prolific attacker over the past twelve months. However, the Portuguese veteran was not included in the Top 10 drawn up by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) for the year about to end.
According to this institute founded in 1984 and based in Lausanne, the prize in 2023 goes to Erling Haaland, the Norwegian striker who last season won everything with Manchester City – the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup, without forgetting the European Super Cup and, most recently, the Club World Cup. The Cyborg ahead of Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, Rodri, Jude Bellingham, Kevin De Bruyne, Harry Kane, Bernardo Silva, Vinicius Jr and Lautaro Martinez.

When reading this Top 10, CR7 contrasts a series of laughing emojis on social networks, as if to make fun of a ranking which without him, in his eyes, does not have much meaning given his successful exercise in Saudi Arabia. Since 2020, the IFFHS has reinstated this trophy for the best player of the year awarded for the first time in 1988, thus echoing the Ballon d’Or and the Fifa The Best prize. Robert Lewandowski won the 2020 and 2021 editions; Lionel Messi stood out in 2022.
