Having left this summer for Lazio Rome, Mattéo Guendouzi has become indisputable and impresses with his performances.

The departure of Mattéo Guendouzi from Olympique de Marseille was poorly received by many of the club’s supporters. Through his rage to win and his desire on the pitch, the French international (7 caps) won over the public at the Stade Vélodrome in his first season in the sky and white jersey. But after a more delicate season under the leadership of Igor Tudor, the midfielder finally left for a new adventure at Lazio Rome, discovering a fourth major championship in his career.

A beautiful climb

And although he started as a substitute for most of his first matches, the 24-year-old gradually established himself within his new team and became an indisputable starter. In Serie A, he started the Biancocelesti’s last 11 matches and regularly takes part in all matches, he even scored his first league goal on December 22 at Empoli.

If the Roman club is only in 9th place in the championship (it was 2nd last year), Guendouzi is attractive and would even be seen as the successor to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (who left for Saudi Arabia) by certain supporters of the club, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport this Friday. Rather flattering when we know the level and impact in the Serbian’s game when he was still playing in the Italian capital. It remains to be seen whether Guendouzi’s performances will be enough to convince Didier Deschamps to recall him, he who has not been called up to the France team since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
