In 2024, Real Madrid will be very active on the market. The residents of the Santiago-Bernabéu stadium will recruit a central defender following the serious injury of David Alaba. Several names have come out of the hat in recent days including those of Gonçalo Inacio and Mario Gila. At the same time, the Merengues are working on other very important issues, such as the possible extension of Carlo Ancelotti or the recruitment of Alphonso Davies or even Kylian Mbappé.

But the sports management of the Spanish club also has another file on which it is working behind the scenes. This concerns a position where Real Madrid has, a priori, no immediate need whether in January or even this summer. Indeed, A.S. reveals this Thursday that the team chaired by Florentino Pérez wants to recruit… a new goalkeeper. Indeed, the Madrilenians want to prepare for the future and find the successor of Thibaut Courtois.

Madrid wants to find Courtois’ successor

Injured this season, the Belgian, who gave up on Euro 2024, will start next year if his return goes perfectly. But Madrid want to find a player who can be their understudy for one or two years before competing with the 32-year-old goalkeeper whose lease ends in June 2026. A.S. explains that the uncertainty surrounding the future of Andriy Lunin (24), who is thinking of a change of scenery, motivated this choice. The Kepa Arrizabalaga case too. The Spanish goalkeeper was not really unanimous.

A.S. specifies that Chelsea will not give any gifts regarding the price of their loaned player. Enough to cool Real Madrid, who will not do anything crazy for a player who is only 2 years apart from Courtois. For all these reasons, the Merengues, who take their time and, above all, tweezers so as not to offend anyone, are exploring the goalkeeper market. The idea is to recruit a young player with great potential. The Uruguayan Randall Rodríguez (20 years old), who plays for Peñarol, has been observed on several occasions. In search of a No. 2 destined to become No. 1, Real Madrid has already launched its search.
