Real Madrid appear to have finally made a decision on Carlo Ancelotti’s future, after around nine months of speculation.

Doubts over his tenure began in the spring of last season, when Los Blancos saw the La Liga title slip away from their grasp as Brazil attempted to snatch the Italian. Heading into 2024, Real Madrid are once again top of La Liga.

Brazil have made him their main target and publicly stated they would appoint him in the summer of 2024, but Ancelotti has always remained coy on those links, admitting he was flattered while not committing to the subject. Asked about a possible renewal of his Merengue contract, Ancelotti said he wanted to stay “as long as possible”.

According to Diario AS, he will have the opportunity to do so. The Madrid media claims that Real Madrid are delighted with ‘Carletto’ and will discuss a new contract with him after Los Blancos return from Saudi Arabia and the Spanish Super Cup. Given the chaos in Brazil, Ancelotti will be tempted by this offer. He has been given a reduced squad this season, but many predict that Real Madrid will look to sign a major attacking player in 2024, with Kylian Mbappé also at the end of his contract. On the other hand, Ancelotti has never managed an international team and he could have the chance to lead Brazil to the 2026 World Cup as the first foreign coach in its history.
