Returning from Saudi Arabia, Manchester City scored a valuable success at the expense of Everton this Wednesday (3-1).

After conquering the Club World Cup last week, Manchester City returned to domestic affairs. The Sky Blues were away to Everton. Against Sean Dyche’s men, it was not an easy affair but the visitors managed to win.

Manchester City had to fight hard

The decisive goal was scored by Julian Alvarez. Building on his good performances in Saudi Arabia, the Argentinian international scored his team’s second goal on a penalty at the heart of the second act. Following a handball from Onana in the area, he successfully converted the penalty.

Previously, Phil Foden had also hit the mark in this part. Shortly after returning from the locker room (53e), the England international equalized for his team by converting a Bernardo Silva serve. The same Silva was also responsible for putting an end to any suspense in the 87th after exploiting a poor recovery from Jordan Pickford.

For the Toffees, this turnaround is infuriating. They thought they were signing a feat by opening the score in the 29the through Jack Harrison. Then, managing to preserve this meager lead until the break.

In the end, the logic was still respected. With this success, Manchester City goes back to 4e place in the standings and counting one match less. Guardiola’s men will now look to end the year on a high note by taking the points on offer against Sheffield next Saturday.
