Two years after completing his coaching diplomas, David Trezeguet applied for the bench at Platense, his training club, which he left at 17 to try his luck in France.
David Trezeguet is ready to launch his second career, that of football coach. Retired since 2015, the 98 world champion and gold scorer at Euro 2000 took the time to complete his coaching diplomas, obtained in 2021 from Conmebol, the South American confederation. It is even in his country of origin, Argentina, that the ex-French international hopes to have his first experience as a technician.
“Trezegol” is indeed applying for the position of coach of Club Atlético Platense, his training club, which is looking for a successor to Martin Palermo, who recently decided to leave. Another former Platense player, Lucas Pusineri, stationed at Tigre earlier in the year, also offered his services to the leaders of the “Calamar”, who finished 17th (out of 28) in the last Argentine Primera Division.
Born in Rouen, where his father played at the time, David Sergio Trezeguet grew up in Buenos Aires and was trained at Platense, a club in the north of the capital. He started in the elite at the age of 16 before breaking his contract to have a trial at PSG, with the help of a certain Omar Da Fonseca. Despite the positive opinion of Luis Fernandez, Trezeguet was not selected but quickly joined AS Monaco, before becoming a French international and a huge scorer at Juventus.
