FC Barcelona could be excluded from European competitions due to the instability of its accounts.

The 2023-2024 financial year is not easy for the FC Barcelona. After a generally successful start to the season, the Catalans are struggling in the league, where they are in fourth place, seven points behind Real Madrid and Girona. Qualified for the Champions League despite a final defeat against Royal Antwerp, the Blaugranas could well not see the round of 16 in which they are supposed to face Naples.

Barça and PSG in danger?

For several days, the German media Die Welt indeed claims that Barça could be excluded from the competition because of financial fair play. The club’s accounts have been in a bad state for several years and this could well deprive it of a future on the European scene. But according to Sport, Barcelona leaders would be quite surprised by this news, especially after announcing a profit of more than 300 million euros for the 2022-2023 season. For his part, Marca reveals that several other clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, will also be scrutinized by UEFA. The verdict should come in February.
