The two major European clubs are currently competing to get their hands on a promising Serbian footballer.

Manchester City is preparing to beat AC Milan to the recruitment of young Serbian prodigy Matija Popovic.

Manchester City more persuasive than Milan

The Partizan Belgrade striker was due to join Milan when his contract expires next week. However, City are now getting involved in the negotiations. And there is a good chance that the target will head towards the north-east of England rather than Lombardy.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano spoke about it this week: “Manchester City are trying to hijack the deal to sign 2006-born Serbian talent Matija Popović as a free agent, discussions are ongoing. Popović was at Man City’s match in Belgrade last week. AC Milan have been in talks to sign Popović since October but nothing has been signed/sealed yet ».

Unless there is another twist, Popovic will not join his compatriot Luka Jovic at San Siro. And he will not become Dejan Savicevic’s successor at the Rossonerri either.
