Rather than signing for Real Madrid, English genius Jude Bellingham could have landed with another major continental team.
Jude Bellingham is enjoying the glory days of Real Madrid today. But, he might not have known about this privilege. When he was still at Birmingham, he came very close to joining another continental big name. This big name is Manchester United.
Ferguson wanted to lure Bellingham to MU
Sir Alex Ferguson fell out with Manchester United’s technical director John Murtough after Jude Bellingham visited Carrington in 2020. While still at Birmingham City, the Real Madrid star visited Manchester United before to choose to join Borussia Dortmund.
Then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer planned a charm offensive for Bellingham and his family, which included club icon Ferguson. But, and according to information from The Athletic, Ferguson was denied the opportunity to speak to the player and his family after having just greeted him. He was therefore unable to convince the young prodigy to link his future to that of the Red Devils.
So Murtough intervened and took the player and his family to the training center. Ferguson felt offended by this decision and made this known to Murtough after the Bellingham family left. For his part, Murtough maintained that it was a simple misunderstanding. Who knows what would have happened if the British leader had not lacked elegance that day. Perhaps Bellingham would evolve today with the training of Erik Ten Hag. He’s not sure, however, that it would have been the best thing for his career.
