Can do better. Here is the assessment that could have been written on the report card for Chelsea’s first part of the season. If this is not yet over, the Blues are currently in a disappointing tenth place. In 17 days, they have collected 22 points (6 wins, 4 draws and 7 defeats) and are already far from the teams at the top of the Premier League standings. This is not what Mauricio Pochettino imagined, he who took control of the English team this summer. He also admitted this during a long interview given to Skysports.

“Today we wanted to be in a different position in the standings, of course I can’t say it’s wrong. I have to be really honest and say I’m upset, not frustrated because we knew it was going to be difficult, but the circumstances weren’t kind. Injuries are causing us to fall a little behind, and not progressing as we wanted. That’s why we’re late. We will do everything to perform and win games, and be in the position we deserve to be.”

Mauricio Pochettino excludes nothing for the transfer window

He then clarified: “I want to win. We have to continue to win and take points. Yes, we want to be higher in the rankings, but we can’t achieve that if we don’t deserve it. We have to earn it. We need to be more competitive. We showed a great way to compete against Sheffield United and now we have to keep moving in the same direction.” Little spared from injuries since the start of this new exercise, Chelsea hopes to be a little luckier afterwards. The residents of Stamford Bridge will also be attentive to the transfer window.

On this point, Pochettino explained: “the sports director and I are talking. If we need to do something, we will be ready. The pressure is always to bring in young talent, and we have different types of targets – with experience, without experience. Some are younger than others and that’s what it takes to provide the team with what it needs (…) Communication is always very good with the owners, we share everything. It’s about sharing ideas. We need each other to express our vision in a way that is a positive statement for the club. If we have to add players, we will do it together, so as to make the best decision for the club.

Several players are closely followed

Everything is possible this winter by listening to the Argentinian. Especially since he knows it very well, the leaders of Chelsea do not hesitate to do crazy things when it comes time for the transfer window. This winter, several players are already in the sights of Todd Boehly and his teams, who want to move up the rankings and qualify for a European Cup. An attacker could also arrive in January or this summer of 2024 at the latest. As for several months, Victor Osimhen (Naples) is very popular with the Londoners. If an extension with the Partenopei is possible, Football London explains that he will have a clause of €127 million.

Ivan Tooney, who Arsenal are also following, is also mentioned. For him Brentford will demand at least €115 million! Another targeted player: Viktor Gyökeres. As explained recently, the Swede from Sporting CP is very popular with the Blues. For him, he will have to pay the amount of his release clause, i.e. €100 million. Londoners are also very interested in Roony Bardghji (18 years old). The latter plays in Copenhagen, where the winger has a string of goals and good performances (10 goals). Danish media BT explains that Chelsea really appreciates his profile and his potential. If departures cannot be ruled out, notably that of Conor Gallagher, the Blues will go on the attack this winter!
