Higuain among the Blues, the astonishing anecdote

Gonzalo Higuain could have represented the French team, but he decided otherwise.

The story could have been quite different for Gonzalo Higuain. Indeed, the former Argentinian international, now retired after two last stints at Inter Miami (2020-2022), was offered the possibility of wearing the colors of the France team.

“There was the room where Higuain was marked”

Born in Brest in France in December 1987, during the lightning spell of his father, defender Jorge Higuain, at Stade Brestois (formerly Brest Armorique), the former Real Madrid striker was called up for a friendly match against Greece in November 2006.

Former coach Raymond Domenech had gone out of his way to convince him to join the Blues, without success. However, a room at the Clairefontaine training center had even been reserved for him, if we are to believe the words of former French defender Julien Escudé. “I was at the castle and there was the room where Higuain was marked,” he said on RMC.
