Merengue coach Carlo Ancelotti wants a central defender to be recruited in January

In recent days, there has been a lot of talk about Real Madrid’s possible activity during the winter transfer window. David Alaba’s anterior cruciate ligament injury has left Carlo Ancelotti with Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez as his only options in central defense, and that situation could be resolved.

Ancelotti wants a central defender to be brought in in January, although club bosses are keen to sign the right player. It could be that a familiar face is being targeted, that of Raphaël Varane.

According to Bild (via MD), Real Madrid are considering signing Varane during the winter. The 30-year-old signed for Manchester United in 2021, and although he has been a key player at Old Trafford, he has struggled to get regular minutes in recent weeks.

It is likely that Varane would arrive on loan if he were to join the club, although it remains to be seen whether Man United allow this possibility, given that the Mancunians have their own defensive injury problems. For now, Real Madrid will keep an eye on the situation.
