Drama at Stade Rennais?

Already in bad shape in terms of results, Stade Rennais would be on the verge of seeing a big blow from the last summer transfer window go away. Nemanja Matic would like to leave.

It was one of the most unexpected arrivals of the last summer transfer window in Ligue 1. Purchased from AS Roma for 2.5 million euros, Nemanja Matic agreed to sign up for two seasons with Stade Rennais. Ambitious, the Breton club counted on the experience and talent of the midfielder, to compete with Olympique de Marseille, OGC Nice and other Racing Club de Lens (not to mention Paris Saint-Germain), in the race for the Ligue des champions. But things did not go at all as planned, and the love story between Matic and Rennes would have already turned into blood sausage.

So much so that, according to an indiscretion published by The Team this Thursday, the former Manchester United player reportedly asked to leave Stade Rennais. And no later than this winter. To justify such a scenario, the media explained that Nemanja Matic would not at all appreciate the current situation of his team, completely left behind in the race for the Champions League and not much better positioned to try to win a very small European ticket (Rennes is 10th, eight points from 6th place occupied by OM). The departure of Bruno Genesio, associated with the uncertainty around Florian Maurice, would also be in question.

Schooling in question

But according to West France this time, it’s also another problem facing the thirty-five-year-old Serb. When he signed up with Stade Rennais, he understood that his three children could follow their education in an international establishment. Except there aren’t any in Rennes. As a result, the situation is complicated for his children. An accumulation of sporting and extra-sporting disappointments which could therefore push him to leave very prematurely. One more problem for Stade Rennais.
