Winner for the third meeting in a row, Olympique Lyonnais, defeater of FC Nantes (1-0), leaves the red zone in Ligue 1.
Lyon supporters who dreamed of one or two small victories before Christmas, after the appointment of Pierre Sage as interim coach in place of Fabio Grosso, were more than granted. It is a third consecutive success, the third without conceding a goal, that the Gones have pocketed. Ideal for spending the holidays warm!
After Toulouse (3-0) and Monaco (0-1), it was FC Nantes which was beaten by this rediscovered OL. Pierre Sage had renewed his 3-4-3 and the Rhone club, without being exciting, did what was necessary to dominate the weak Canaries. Alban Lafont pushed back the deadline in the first period, winning twice on headers from Lovren (33rd) and Lacazette (35th). But OL made the difference right after the locker room.
Lacazette still decisive
It was on a counter led by Rayan Cherki that Alexandre Lacazette scored the goal of this meeting (1-0, 49th). Nantes, despite the red card received by Dejan Lovren for a strong tackle on Mostafa Mohamed (84th), never really managed to worry Anthony Lopes.
With these nine points taken in three games, OL have moved up to 16th place, outside the red zone, and are suddenly breathing much easier. It’s the opposite trajectory for Jocelyn Gourvennec’s FC Nantes, who have a third setback in a row, and are only two points ahead of their evening opponent…
