FC Barcelona have identified Lille striker Jonathan David as a possible replacement for Robert Lewandowski, according to reports in Spain.
The Canadian international was expected to leave the Ligue 1 club over the summer after a stellar 2022-23 season, but no acceptable offer was tabled and he stayed put. However, FC Barcelona have now named David as one of three potential new strikers, as they look to move on from Lewandowski.
Vitor Roque will join the club in January if things go as planned, while Ferran Torres can play in the middle and Marc Guiu made his debut at the start of the season, but a better-known name has been mooted. According to the Spanish media Fichajes, Lois Openda (RB Leipzig), Santiago Gimenez (Feyenoord) and Jonathan David have been approached to replace Lewandowski.
The latter only has 18 months left on his contract at Lille and could therefore be available next summer, as the French club will probably want to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2025. A pursuit therefore makes sense, especially that he has scored 33 goals and provided six assists since the start of last season.
