This Tuesday, KV Ostend announced that it was suing Bologna for payment defaults in connection with the transfer of Arthur Theate in the summer of 2021. Arrived at the Italian club as part of a loan with an option to buy mandatory 6 million euros, the 23-year-old Belgian defender was bought by the transalpine club before Stade Rennais spent 19 million euros to flush him out on the other side of the Alps. It was then that KV Ostend criticized the Italian leaders for not having paid the required sum despite their significant profit.

Less than a year later, on July 29, 2022, Arthur transferred from Bologna to Stade Rennais Football Club, resulting in a significant profit for the Italian clubrecalls the Belgian team. Despite these significant profits and our repeated attempts to collect overdue payments, Bologna has not fulfilled its contractual obligations. As a small regional club, KV Oostende depends on transfer income for its continued existence and we find it difficult to understand why a club currently fourth in Serie A would not respect previous contracts in which we created significant value for them.»
