If Real Madrid decide to bring back Raphaël Varane, it would benefit almost all parties.

David Alaba is expected to be out until the end of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, meaning the Whites will have to look for defensive reinforcements in the next window. Varane spent most of his career with Los Blancos and has an emotional connection to the club. He joined the Lens team in 2011 and played 360 matches over ten seasons. The Frenchman’s performance against Liverpool last Sunday proved he can defend against some of the best strikers in the world.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has returned to Spain after a mixed experience at Chelsea. He has done well so far as a replacement for the injured Thibaut Courtois. Real Madrid could take the same approach for Varane.

Erik ten Hag is not a big fan of Varane, who according to MEN he would like to stay at Old Trafford for the coming years, hoping that the club activates the one-year extension inserted in his contract. Varane’s contract expires in June 2024 and the Red Devils have the option of another year.

The former Lens player has just under seven months left on his contract at United and the clubs could sign him in January as part of a pre-contract agreement. Under the leadership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club will work to attract new, younger talent and get rid of those who have reached retirement age and are on high salaries.

Varane has a £350,000 contract, making him one of the highest-paid central defenders in Europe. If Real Madrid were to look to bring him back, it could solve a lot of problems for all parties involved.
