Even if it inherited the most affordable opponent, Paris Saint-Germain will not have a huge margin in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Real Sociedad.
Of the seven possible opponents for Paris Saint-Germain, it was the one with the least prestigious name. And it is Real Sociedad that the capital club inherited for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
So this is good news, on paper. However, this does not mean that PSG will be largely favorites against this opponent, who finished first in their group ahead of Inter Milan. According to the Euro Club Index account, which is based on statistical data from Gracenote and Hypercube, PSG has a 60% chance of qualifying for the round of 16. Which leaves plenty of room for a big disappointment for the French champions.
Of the eight posters, there are two where the second in the group is the favorite, including this PSG-Real Sociedad. This is also the case for Inter-Atlético, where a slight ascendancy is given to the Italians. Unsurprisingly, it is Manchester City who have the biggest margin over their opponent, with no less than a 97% chance of qualifying.
