The Brazilian club, holders of the Copa Libertadores, took on the Egyptian team Al Ahly to reach the final level of the FIFA competition.

Thanks to a penalty transformed by Arias (71e) and an achievement by Kennedy (90e), the Cariocas won 2-0 against their Cairo counterparts, thus gaining their place for the first time in the final of the Club World Cup.

Fluminense will be joined on Tuesday evening by Manchester City or the Urawa Red Diamonds, a Japanese club based in Saitama and play-off winners against the Mexicans of Leon.

The final will be played on December 22, still in Jeddah, and Fluminense will try to succeed Corinthians, the last South American club to have broken European hegemony, in 2012.
