While the 2024/2025 edition of the Champions League will take place with a new formula, the premier competition of football clubs unveils this Monday the identity of its round of 16. The draw took place in Nyon in Switzerland this afternoon and allows you to find out the 8 posters for the next round. The only French representative still in the race, Paris Saint-Germain, who found themselves in pot 2 with their second place, could expect the worst.
Indeed, the Ile-de-France residents were able to find their last three tormentors, namely Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City, the three teams which impressed the most during the group stage. Arsenal and the three other Spanish clubs, namely Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona and Real Sociedad were also potential opponents for the Ile-de-France residents. The latter will not meet Borussia Dortmund since teams from the same group and the same country cannot meet at this stage of the competition.
PSG is doing well
And the draw was kind this time with Paris Saint-Germain in the end since the Ile-de-France residents will meet Real Sociedad, a team which shone in the group stage but which seems more affordable than other big names in the competition. Among the big pieces of this draw, we can think of Napoli which will be a complicated duel for FC Barcelona or Inter Milan which will challenge Atlético de Madrid.
The big names in the competition were spared since defending champion Manchester City will challenge Copenhagen when Bayern Munich will challenge Lazio. On the other hand, Real Madrid fell against a formidable competitor in RB Leipzig. Returning to this stage of the competition, Arsenal will cross swords with Porto in a tantalizing duel while the final match will be between Borussia Dortmund and PSV Eindhoven.
