The draw for the round of 16 of the Champions League takes place this Monday.
You had to see Kylian Mbappé’s pouting expression on Wednesday evening to gauge the extent to which Bondy’s prodigy fears the draw for the knockout stages of the Champions League. Accustomed to disappointments at this stage of the competition, the Parisians hope to finally have luck on their side. But their second place in this group phase rather portends a difficult draw.
Everything except Man City, Real Madrid or Bayern
By finishing behind Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain is no longer among the top seeds in the field. A group of teams made up mainly of big names. Looking ahead to the draw, the worst opponents have already been identified: Manchester City, defending champion; Real Madrid or even Bayern Munich. Three scarecrows that the French champions have encountered very often in recent seasons.
Two other teams could cause problems for PSG: Arsenal and, to a lesser degree, Atlético de Madrid. But these two clubs would at least be synonymous with novelty for Luis Enrique’s gang. Finally, Barça, a prestigious club but in great difficulty, and Real Sociedad, the revelation of this campaign but very inexperienced at this level, look like ideal opponents for PSG.
