UEFA will launch the new formula of the Champions League with 36 teams next year, with eight matches for each participant, during a group stage which will be spread from mid-September to… the end of January!
The Champions League is dead, long live the Champions League? The most beautiful European competition will turn a huge page in its history by putting an end to its phase of eight groups of four teams. Next year, the new formula will see the teams play eight matches, against seven different opponents (coming from four different hats).
The publication of the calendar for the next Ligue 1 season by the LFP has shed light on the calendar for the future LDC. The eight days of the championship phase will begin in mid-September, with a “Champions week” with matches scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday! This first round will continue until January, before a penultimate day on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22, then an XXL final with all the matches on Wednesday 29!
We will continue immediately, in mid-February, with the LDC play-offs, between the teams ranked from 9th to 24th place (in round-trip matches), then the round of 16, finally, 4, 5, 11 and March 12. The quarter-finals in April and the semi-finals in May will determine the identity of the two finalists in Munich on May 31. The season is going to be long…
