PSG: Vitinha charmed Luis Enrique

This Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League by snatching a draw at Borussia Dortmund (1-1). A match in which Vitinha was started in midfield by Luis Enrique.

The Portuguese played as number 6 in front of the defense in place of Manuel Ugarte who started on the substitutes’ bench. And in this unusual position, the Parisian number 17 produced a sparkling performance, proving himself valuable to his partners.

Important under opposing pressure and comfortable in keeping the ball, his contribution was good for his team in hot moments. A performance which delighted Luis Enrique who did not fail to make it known this Saturday at a press conference.

“Did you see the match? Did you like Vitinha? I liked it too. Vitinha can play like 8, like 6, but for a style of play like ours, he will have time like 6. When you want to play, the quality, you can play in a lot of places. I’m sure he would prefer to play in his natural position, but he has that high-level mindset to play different positions. I loved his match, his physical effort, he was very complete against Dortmund,” did he declare.

Lined up again as number 6 this Sunday against LOSC?

This Sunday evening, PSG goes to LOSC as part of the 16th day of Ligue 1. A match that Vitinha has a strong chance of starting at kick-off. And why not in the number 6 position again.

Technically valuable with interesting ball retention qualities under pressure, the Portuguese scored valuable points in a high-stakes match in C1. He could be lined up in midfield alongside Warren Zaire-Emery and Kang-In Lee as against BVB. Unless Luis Enrique decides to start Manuel Ugarte and reposition him in front of the defense.
