New poor performance for Manchester City in the Premier League: Pep Guardiola’s players quietly led 2-0 against Crystal Palace on Saturday, before being caught at the end of the match…

Three draws against Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham, then a defeat against Aston Villa had already relegated Manchester City off the Premier League podium in recent weeks. Pep Guardiola’s team also failed to win at home against Crystal Palace (2-2) on Saturday afternoon for the 17th day. The reigning English champions are only fourth in the standings, three points behind Liverpool who face Man United on Sunday.

City should never have let themselves be caught in this way. Without Erling Haaland but still as dominant, the residents of the Etihad Stadium led 2-0 thanks to Jack Grealish (24th) and Rico Lewis (54th, for his first goal in the PL). The Mancunians relaxed, conceding a first goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta on an overflow from Jeffrey Schlupp (81st). Phil Foden made a stupid foul on Mateta in added time and it was another former Bleuet, Michael Olise, who equalized from the penalty spot (95th).

At the same time, Newcastle easily beat a Fulham quickly reduced to 10 (3-0), to take sixth place (coming within five points of Man City). Chelsea revived after two defeats by beating Sheffield United (2-0), thanks to Cole Palmer (54th) and Nicolas Jackson (61st). The Blues are 10th in the standings, 11 points behind the top 5.
