Arriving in the summer of 2021 from Real Madrid, Raphaël Varane was eagerly awaited by Manchester United supporters. Tired of seeing their team deprived of a central defense worthy of the name since the departure of the Ferdinand-Vidic duo almost ten years ago, fans of the Red Devils thought that the 2018 world champion was the right man to come and chew up the last Mancunian line. One year less for the thirty-year-old would mean a significant saving for United, which currently pays him an annual salary of just over fifteen million euros.
