Present at the Nice Criminal Court this Friday, Christophe Galtier explained the use of certain expressions.

It was this Friday, before the Nice Criminal Court, that Christophe Galtier was called upon to break the silence on the accusations of racism to which he is the subject. During his trial, the former Paris Saint-Germain coach appeared both determined and touched by certain episodes.

Among the list of grievances presented during the trial, there was particular question of the use of the expression “King Kong” to designate defenders of AS Saint-Etienne, Mickaël Nadé and Harold Moukoudi, that OGC Nice , then coached by Galtier, had to face.

“There is no connotation other than strength and power”

Although he recognized the awkwardness of this term, Galtier denied any racist connotation. “ I remember I hesitated to say Molosser or King Kong. I used this term. King Kong is strength and power. There is no connotation other than strength and power“, Christophe Galtier is said to have declared in comments taken up by RMC.

When we played against Nantes, in the Coupe de France final, I used the same formula for Nicolas Pallois. In hindsight, this was shocking. If this offended him, I must apologize. Yes I used this expression, but not in a racist way. I don’t anticipate. Because if I say about Nicolas Pallois that he is a King Kong, everyone understands that he is rough, strong and powerful. When I use this term, it is with the athletic spirit“, Galtier would have concluded.
