The jackpot for PSG

The qualification of PSG for the round of 16 of the Champions League allows the capital club to take care of its finances.

Luis Enrique’s troops preserved the essentials on Wednesday on the pitch at Borussia Dortmund. Although it had to settle for a draw (1-1), PSG, helped by AC Milan’s victory in Newcastle, indeed won its ticket to the round of 16 of the Champions League. A relief for the capital club, which has always been there in the final phase of the C1 since the arrival of QSI at its head.

In addition to allowing the Rouge et Bleu to maintain their rank, this qualification also earned the French champions a substantial income. Despite sluggish results – only 8 points out of 18 possible – with a barely balanced record (two victories, two draws and two defeats), PSG is in fact assured of receiving 92.9 million euros from UEFA.

In detail, Paris will receive 33 million euros in television rights, a bonus of around 30 million indexed to the last ten years as well as the UEFA ranking, a check for 15.64 million euros for his participation and 6.53 million euros for his results. To all this, we must therefore add €9.6 million for qualification for the round of 16. A total which will climb further this winter during the round of 16.

Elimination from the group stage of the Champions League would have caused PSG to lose no less than 20 million euros. The club would indeed have had significant losses in terms of ticketing and merchandising if it had been released from the group stage and transferred to C3.
