The Toulouse Football Club won its place in the Europa League play-off by winning this Thursday evening in Austria, on the LASK pitch (1-2). The Violets will face a loss from the Champions League in February.

The Europa League adventure continues for Toulouse! After a good run during the first five days, the TFC was assured of remaining on the European scene until next February. We did not yet know if it would still be in the Europa League, or in the Europa Conference League, but it is the C3 play-offs that the Violets will compete in.

TFC only needed one point this Thursday evening in Austria to maintain their second place, and Carles Martinez Novell’s men made a point of winning at LASK (1-2) . After a fairly balanced first period, where the winners of the Coupe du France reacted well after a difficult start, Thijs Dallinga opened the scoring with a good shift from Cesar Gelabert (0-1, 54th). But Toulouse’s advantage was short-lived, until Ljubicic’s header equalized from a cross from Stojkovic (1-1, 62nd).

Toulouse has won more in the Europa League than in Ligue 1

At that moment, and since the Union Saint-Gilloise was beating the Liverpool B team (2-1), the TFC was at the mercy of a goal, which would have placed it in a solution unfavorable. But the liberation came from this good cross from Aron Donnum, who offered the winning goal to Gabriel Suazo (1-2, 83rd), already decisive in the first leg.

This seals a very successful group stage for Toulouse, who finished just one point behind Liverpool, and have therefore won more victories this season in the Europa League (3) than in Ligue 1 so far (2 success in 15 days). After the memorable success against Liverpool, the TFC has the right to hope for a new showing against a team dropped from the Champions League. It could be AC Milan, Benfica or Galatasaray. But this will only be a bonus, and we will have to think about regaining some air in the championship standings in the meantime, to avoid a tense second part of the season.
