Thanks to two goals scored from the penalty spot on Thursday evening against Klaksvik, Lille won at home for their last Europa Conference League group match (3-0). The Mastiffs will play in the round of 16 of the competition.

Third qualification in a row for a European Cup final phase for Lille. Thursday evening in Pierre-Mauroy, Paulo Fonseca’s men validated their ticket for the round of 16 of the Europa Conference League by beating the modest Klaksvik team (3-0). Enough to finish first in group A, ahead of Slovan Bratislava, beaten at home by Olimpija Ljubljana (1-2) and which will play in a play-off.

Although they largely dominated their opponents, Lille did not shine in terms of the spectacle offered. The meeting was very unenthusiastic and the three goals were scored from the penalty spot. First there was the one transformed by Yazici after half an hour of play (1-0, 29th). The other two arrived very late, at the very end of the match, while the visitors were physically breaking down.

Fonseca will have something to say

Angel Gomes doubled the lead for Losc (2-0, 87th) and it was ultimately Zhegrova who finished in stoppage time (3-0, 90th + 6). Two red cards for Klaksvik and logical defeat for the Faroe Islands team which is eliminated. As for Lille, the course was almost flawless in this group stage, with four wins and two draws in their six matches. On the other hand, the level proposed by his players will certainly not have reassured a Paulo Fonseca who was very angry on the subject last weekend. For this Thursday evening, the important thing remains the victory and qualification for the eighth of the Europa Conference League.
