RC Lens plays its last C1 match this Tuesday evening against Sevilla. A qualification for the C3 is at stake.
As in 1998/1999 and 2002/2003, RC Lens will not cross the group stage in the Champions League. In its group, the Artesian team was beaten by Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven. But, she may be entitled to a good consolation prize. Namely a folding seat for the Europa League.
Lens hits the mark
The Sang et Or are currently 3rd in the ranking. If they finish in this place, they will advance to the round of 32 of the Europa League, scheduled for February. It wouldn’t be infamous, especially for a club like Lens. “We must never forget where each other comes from. The club too. And measure the opportunity to continue in the Europa League. I am very happy to have this chance to experience,” agreed Franck Haise on Tuesday at a press conference.
But what result would the French vice-champion need to be transferred to C3? It’s simple, he just needs to not lose in order to extend his career on the continental scene. A goal within reach, especially since Fulgini and others had just drawn Sevilla in the first leg.
On the other hand, a defeat and the Artésiens will be eliminated from all European competition. It would be a shame given all the efforts made and also in view of the feat achieved against Arsenal during the 2e day (2-1).
