In the event of elimination from the group stage of the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain will lose big financially.
With their backs against the wall, PSG no longer has the right to make mistakes. Traveling to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening (9 p.m.), on the final day of the group stage of the Champions League, Luis Enrique’s men will be guaranteed to see the round of 16 of the competition while finishing first in their group. On the other hand, in the event of a defeat or a draw, the Parisians will have to look at the result of the match between Newcastle and AC Milan.
A potential elimination which would necessarily be a catastrophe on a sporting level for the French champions, but also on a financial level. In fact, PSG would miss out on a little more than 12 million euros, reports the daily The Team. A sum including the check paid to the round of 16 finalists (9.6 million) and that of the victory against BvB (2.8 million). A shortfall to which would be added a drop in commercial revenues from the French market.
In total, Paris Saint-Germain will lose at least 20 million euros in the event of elimination this Wednesday evening from the C1. An amount which could be greater if Kylian Mbappé and others continue their journey beyond the round of 16. A shortfall which could be partly made up by revenue from the Europa League, if ever the residents of the Parc des Princes were to be transferred to C3.
