RC Lens validated its qualification for the round of 16 of the Europa League by dominating Sevilla FC (2-1).
Lens will not see the round of 16 of the Champions League. But, failing to be able to join the European Top 16, the Sang et Or will have the right to participate in the Europa League from the round of 16 in Europe. A privilege that they acquired by finishing in 3e place in their group behind Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven.
A first half to be forgotten
To be transferred to the other continental event, Lens had to not lose this Tuesday during its final duel against Sevilla. Sotoca and others did better. They won with a score of 2-1. With a little success and also a lot of suffering, but no one will be choosy.
The first period passed without a goal scored and it was almost a godsend for the Artésiens. During these first 45 minutes, they were below everything, not touching a single ball in the Andalusian area. A lethargy for which they could have been punished, but Sevilla were not very inspired in their offensives.
The second half was better on the Lensois side. Once they got their heads out of the water, the French vice-champions managed to cause problems for their opponent. And at 63e minute, they took the lead at the mark thanks to a penalty. A penalty transformed by Frankowski and obtained by Medina.

Fulgini does it again against the Sevillians
The Argentine midfielder was decisive in a good way, before being decisive in a bad way. A quarter of an hour after opening the score, he was guilty of conceding a penalty. Former Parisian Sergio Ramos stepped forward to shoot him. To the great delight of the Lensois supporters, Brice Samba won the duel. But the joy was short-lived. The French goalkeeper came out of his woods a little too quickly and the try had to be withdrawn. Ramos did not miss his second attempt, signing a daring Panenka (79e).
At 1-1, the end of the match seemed very long for the Sang et Or. Franck Haise’s men, however, managed to keep their backs and hold on. Not only did they resist but they even managed to score a second goal at the end of the game on a counterattack. As with Sanchez Pizjuan, it was Angelo Fulgini who came to defeat the Sevillians. 2-1, Bollaert could explode with joy. Next February, the Lensois will therefore be present in C3. An ordeal that brings back some glorious memories.
