Sidney Govou, one of the legends of OL, spoke out on the case of the current coach of Les Gones, Pierre Sage.
What will be the future of Pierre Sage at OL? Appointed at the head of the first team to replace Fabio Grosso, the former training center director has given Les Gones an attractive face. But has he done enough to convince his management to bet on him over the long term?
Sage is favored by Govou
Sunday evening, after the brilliant success against Toulouse – the first of the season at home – Sidney Govou had to answer the question. The man with 292 matches under the Rhone tunic pleaded for stability. “Should we keep it? The next few weeks, I would say yes. And for afterwards too. You need stability to maintain yourself. The coach must know the championship and the players,” he declared on Canal+ Foot.
The former French international continued by declaring that the Sage touch is already clearly visible in Lyon’s game. “This trio of coaches, for the moment, gives us satisfaction if we remove the non-match against OM. When collectively you manage to find this solidity – because attacking, everyone likes to do it – it’s because the staff is working behind it. The message from Sage and his staff came across very well.”

Govou does not want reinforcements in January
Finally, Govou gave his opinion on the need or not to strengthen for OL during the winter market. “Strengthen why not if there are opportunities. But, above all, it is the players who are there who have destiny in their hands and must have the right state of mind. In the transfer window, we must not weaken. And don’t do anything, by putting too many players. OL have more than enough capacity to maintain their position with this group.”
