At the end of the 15th day of Serie A, Sassuolo traveled to Cagliari to return to victory and move away from the red zone. Opposed to a relegated team, the Neroverdi quickly opened the scoring from a corner thanks to Martin Erlic’s powerful header (0-1, 7th). Subsequently, the latter came up against a tough team in the first half. The pressure increased upon returning from the locker room and more particularly after the hour mark following the expulsion of central defender Ruan Tressoldi (63rd) for a second yellow card.

And despite Sardinian attempts, the visitors held on until added time. While Sassuolo had thought they scored the winning goal before seeing the VAR refuse it, Gianluca Lapadula finally brought the two teams back to level at the very end of the match (1-1, 90+4th). A few minutes later, Leonardo Pavoletti gave the locals the advantage with an unorthodox return (2-1, 90+9th). An ideal scenario for Cagliari who took advantage of this miraculous victory to escape from the red zone and climb to sixteenth place. So close to the goal, Sassuolo remains fifteenth.
