The decision to leave was mutual, with Génésio citing personal reasons for his exit. The club has wasted no time in appointing Stephan as the new head coach, with his presentation scheduled for a press conference on Monday, November 20th, 2023 at 2pm.
Génésio’s departure comes after a series of inconsistent results for the club, which currently sits 13th in Ligue 1 and has not secured a league victory in over a month and a half. Despite his contract running until June 2025, the defeat to Lyon last Sunday was the final straw for Génésio and the club.
The return of Julien Stephan, who previously led the team to a 4th place finish in Ligue 1, signals a new chapter for the club.
