Why did Ruben Neves go to play in Saudi Arabia? The Portuguese international responds without hypocrisy.

He surprised a lot of people. Having a more than honorable career in Europe, at FC Porto (Portugal) then at Wolverhampton (England), Ruben Neves left for Saudi Arabia last summer.

At only 26 years old, the Portuguese defensive midfielder was not considering early retirement, like other colleagues, the established thirty-somethings, having given in to the sirens of the Saudi Pro League. The reason is simple and he didn’t hide it.

“ Of course, one of the reasons I came is money, you can’t hide it.”told Ruben Neves to BBC Sport. The Al-Hilal SFC player is under contract until 2026 in the club where Neymar, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Kalidou Koulibaly and Malcom are located.

Ruben Neves, 45 caps with Portugal, would receive around 14 million euros per year.
