Traveling to Real Betis on Saturday, Real Madrid did no better than a draw (1-1, 16th day of La Liga). Jude Bellingham scored the only Merengue goal.
Madrid didn’t lose, but Madrid didn’t win. And that’s the whole problem for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who failed to do better than a draw this Saturday, on the Real Betis pitch (1-1, 16th day of La Liga). Even though they dominated in terms of ball possession (63% over the entire match), the visitors also allowed their hosts to create some good opportunities. Note the magnificent goal from Jude Bellingham, on a perfect serve from Brahim Diaz. In the provisional standings, Real Madrid is now under threat from Girona who could get back in front on Sunday, in the event of success against FC Barcelona.
Saturday on the lawn of the Benito Villamarin stadium in Seville, Betis and Real kept each other in respect for a long time. So much so that no goals were scored in the first half. More shots on target for the locals, but possession largely in favor of the visitors. Things then moved during the second act, with this bright opening score from Bellingham (0-1, 53rd). A goal to which Betis responded almost a quarter of an hour later with a gem of a cross strike from Aitor Ruibal (1-1, 66th). Nothing more will be scored until the final whistle.
Madrid under threat
In the standings, Real Madrid is therefore a small point ahead of Girona, its direct pursuer. The latter will travel to the FC Barcelona pitch on Sunday for a duel between the second and third. If Girona were to win, they would regain a two-point lead over Real Madrid. Concerning Betis, Manuel Pellegrini’s men are provisionally seventh. Also note that a little earlier in the afternoon, Las Palmas did the right thing by winning away, on the Alaves field (0-1).
