One year after Lionel Messi’s coronation as The Best FIFA Player of the Year, the winner for 2023 will be revealed on January 15 in London. For the obvious coronation of Erling Haaland?

A year after Paris for the coronation (at home) of Lionel Messi, Fifa chose London for its ceremony of The Best Fifa Football Awards 2023, on January 15. “La Pulga” is one of the 12 nominated for the title of The Best Fifa Player of the Year, but the one who won his 8th Ballon d’Or on October 30 should not succeed himself. A certain Erling Haaland will descend on the English capital, from Manchester, to probably win.

The Norwegian crack, author of 52 goals with Manchester City during the 2022-2023 season, to win the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League, should be ahead of Kylian Mbappé. The captain of the Blues is the only French player named this year. The Cityzens are present in force, with Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez, in addition to Haaland.

Few French people named…

The huge jury divided into four groups (national coaches, national captains, journalists and supporters) was able to vote for the title of The Best Fifa Goalkeeper of the Year (between Yassine Bounou, Thibaut Courtois, Ederson, André Onana, Marc-André ter Stegen) or even coach of the year (between Pep Guardiola, Simone Inzaghi, Ange Postecoglou, Luciano Spalletti and Xavi).

Among the women, Kadidiatou Diani is nominated for The Best Fifa Player of the Year, just like her Lyon teammate Lindsey Horan. Aitana Bonmati, the recent 2023 Ballon d’Or, should succeed her Barça and Seleccion teammate Alexia Putellas. There is no French coach cited in this category. Christiane Endler represents OL for the goalkeeper of the year distinction.
