On the sidelines of Manchester City’s defeat at Aston Villa (1-0) on Wednesday evening, Pep Guardiola declared that he would retire at the end of the season on one condition.
Author of a historic treble last season – championship, cup and Champions League – Manchester City has not been as sovereign since the start of the 2023-2024 financial year. Unable to win a single Premier League match for more than a month, the Citizens fell to Aston Villa (1-0) this Wednesday evening, on the 15th day of the championship.
On the sidelines of this defeat, Pep Guardiola made a surprise announcement. The Catalan coach has announced that he will retire if his team achieves another treble at the end of the season.
“If we win the treble this season, I will retire, that’s for sure.”
“If we win the treble this season, I will retire, that’s for sure. I know it’s extremely difficult, how many incredible teams have been in England. And only one with Sir Alex Ferguson did it and ourselves last season”declared the former Barça coach at the microphone of Prime Video.
If the Skyblues are already qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League, they have more difficulties on the national scene. The residents of Etihad Stadium are currently 4th in the Premier League, six points behind leader Arsenal.
