FC Barcelona had already announced it on Tuesday: its German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, absent from the field since mid-November, had back surgery in Strasbourg. An operation which should extend his unavailability until the end of the calendar year as also revealed by the Spanish press. THE Mundo Deportivo even says that it was the 31-year-old goalkeeper himself who wanted to play billiards outside of Spain, as he had already done for his knee in Sweden a few years earlier.
But for the moment, the current third in La Liga has still not given any news on the exact period of absence or even on the operation in question. Still according to the Catalan daily, this hermeticism would have been requested by the international with 38 selections, who should give his agreement this Friday to the Blaugrana club to communicate on the situation. Over the last three Barça meetings, Xavi Hernandez has placed his trust in the young Iñaki Peña, who is holding the house during the absence of the former Mönchengladbach player, with two victories and a draw between the championship and the Champions League.
