Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been given a makeover for the video game Grand Theft Auto, while the wait for the sixth part is becoming more and more pressing.
Rockstar Games’ trailer for the latest version of the popular open world has sparked excitement from fans around the world, some of whom reacted in very creative ways. A particularly imaginative reaction came from user X Don Shelby with his imagining of football’s biggest stars as characters from the game, which has since gone viral. Messi, who coincidentally now lives in Miami where the game takes place, is depicted as a quiet loner, who wanders around Vice City, wearing a bomber jacket over a simple white T-shirt. Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, is a suave crook, wearing medallions and retro aviators.

The game has become extremely popular since its release in 1997, and each new edition is eagerly awaited by fans. Rockstar Games has struggled to contain a number of leaked images and trailers of the upcoming release, but on the other hand, fans have been very creative and treated us to images such as Golden Boy Jude Bellingham, as relaxed on the Miami crime scene as on the Real Madrid pitch. Without forgetting our national Kylian Mbappé.

Vinicius Junior, Neymar and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are among other football icons who have been transformed into GTA characters. Over its 26-year history, Grand Theft Auto has become the highest-grossing entertainment product of all time. The previous edition, released in 2013, generated revenue of more than $7.7 billion for the game’s publishers.

While the game will unfortunately not contain any of the brilliantly reimagined football icons when it releases in 2025, it will feature a female main character for the first time. It remains to be seen whether players will have the opportunity to watch Messi, the new MLS star, at Inter Miami.
