TV rights: the jackpot is possible!

While the projections expected by the LFP for L1 TV rights will not be achieved, the Premier League continues to sell at a high price!

Nearly two billion per season, this is the price of the Premier League according to the agreement concluded this Monday between the English football elite and the historic TV broadcasters Sky Sports and TNT Sports (formerly BT Sports). Over the period 2025-2029, i.e. four years, a deal worth 6.7 billion pounds (around 7.8 billion euros) was in fact signed.

For the Premier League, this contract worth 1.95 billion per season represents a 4% increase in the premium English football broadcast market. Up to 215 live matches per financial year for Sky Sports; and 52 games for TNT Sports. The BBC keeps its share devoted to delayed highlights and the famous program dear to Gary Lineker “Match of the Day”.

Amazon out of the race

On the other hand, Amazon Prime Video, which seems reluctant to extend its commitment to Ligue 1, is also giving up the 20 Premier League matches that it had until then. The consistency, and even the improvement, of the English football market contrasts with the difficulties encountered by the Professional Football League in promoting Ligue 1. As a reminder, the reserve price of 800 million euros per season set by the League during the call for tenders launched for the period 2024-2029 was not reached last October.
