The death of a Nantes supporter in front of Beaujoire on Saturday, on the sidelines of the championship match between FCN and OGC Nice, should not be without consequences for French football. This Monday, the president of the Professional Football League, Vincent Labrune, spoke out in favor of strong measures. Namely the ban on supporters traveling outside.
“ The phenomena of violence which have strongly affected our society in recent times are not the prerogative of footballnotes the person concerned to RMC. We must take radical measures in the environment of our sport to allow fans and families to come freely to a show, which must remain a celebration above all. (…) The best way to restore the situation in the short term in our sport is to prohibit the movement of supporters who are directly at the origin of the majority of disturbances to public order and now the tragedies that we encounter. It’s time to strike a big blow. »
On the same line as the Minister of Sports
Earlier in the day, on France Inter airwaves, Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra herself mentioned such an appeal. “ It’s just not possible to continue like this. We need a global initiative, a global response. And in a radical situation, radical measure. (…) I think that for the moment we should stop on travel. I think it is essential to have a time to return to a situation of less violence. It is not possible that we have law enforcement that is so overstretched, property destroyed, buses stoned, people injured, now a dead person. That’s enough. » And to conclude: “ We are going to take the initiative with the Minister of the Interior, with the Minister of Justice, with the Professional Football League, with the Federation, with all the clubs. We need a comprehensive and extraordinarily determined response. »
