After the death of a Nantes supporter, the Minister of Sports and the president of the LFP support the ban on fan travel.
On the sidelines of the Ligue 1 match between FC Nantes and OGC Nice (1-0), a Nantes supporter died after being stabbed during clashes between supporters of the two teams. This drama aroused great emotion in the world of football and led the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, to propose banning all travel by supporters away from home. This proposal was immediately supported by the president of the Professional Football League (LFP), Vincent Labrune.
In an interview with RMC radio, he declared: “The phenomena of violence which have hit our society hard in recent times are not the exclusive prerogative of football. We must call a spade a spade: there is a fundamental problem in our society which unfortunately goes well beyond that. We see it every day with horror. However, we must take our share of responsibility in our field of competence, that is for sure. And that is why I fully support the words of the Minister of Sports. »

The Orléanais also clarified that the problems of violence surrounding football are not specific to France. “You just have to look closely at what’s happening with our neighbors to be convinced,” he said. According to him, banning supporters’ travel is the radical measure necessary to restore the situation in the short term in French football. “It’s time to strike a blow and show that together we are strong and that we can resolve things,” he concluded.
