Sunday evening, FC Barcelona won a major shock against Atlético de Madrid (1-0) and came back level with Girona and Real Madrid, the two La Liga leaders. In addition to a goal from Joao Felix, the Blaugranas can thank Inaki Peña, Marc-André ter Stegen’s understudy. The substitute did the job, while the German goalkeeper still has to treat his back injury. Since his return from the rally with the German selection, the Catalan goalkeeper has been out and nothing seems to be working out for him. Barça’s technical staff and medical services then met this Monday to assess his situation.

According to information from Sport, the possibility of surgery would be considered, since he still cannot return to form and was absent against Rayo Vallecano, Porto and Atlético de Madrid. The 31-year-old goalkeeper could then be available from January, missing Barça’s next four matches, including three in La Liga (against Girona, Valencia and Almería) and one in the Champions League, against Antwerp.
