Olympique de Marseille is back on the path to success. For this last meeting of the 14th day of Ligue 1, OM secured in front of their supporters against Stade Rennais with a score of 2 goals to 0. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Azzedine Ounahi gave their team the three points.

A success which does great good for the Marseille club which had not won a single match in the league since October 8 against Le Havre (2-0).

This victory allows the Marseillais to climb to 9th place in the standings with 17 points on the clock and a game in hand. A good omen before tackling the late match counting for the 10th day this Wednesday against Olympique Lyonnais.

On the other side, Stade Rennais is 12th. Julian Stéphan’s men fail to continue and confirm their success from the previous day against Stade de Reims (3-1).

Marseillais dominated but clinical

In a not full Stade Vélodrome, Phocéens and Marseillais entered their meeting perfectly. However, it was Gennaro Gattuso’s men who struck first. Launched on the left side Iliman Ndiaye slipped into the Rennes area before being violently tackled by Christopher Wooh.

The referee did not flinch and whistled for the penalty spot. Effective in the exercise in the Europa League this week against Ajax Amsterdam, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did it again and transformed his penalty against Steve Mandanda without trembling (1-0.8).

A goal which perfectly launched the hostilities for the Olympians but which will decline over the minutes in this first act.

Inspired on a technical level where numerous technical sequences were released, Stade Rennais set the tempo of the meeting but struggled to be efficient and fair in the last meters of its opponent. Yet led by a sparkling Enzo Le Fée, the Rouge et Noir did not manage to break the Olympian barrier.

Expulsions and OM drives home the point

It is a second period like the first act. The SRFC left with the same intentions without worrying the Marseille players as much, who on the whole managed to manage the Rennes offensives well.

The tipping point arrived on the hour mark when Christopher Wooh was sent off from the game following an uncontrolled tackle on Geoffrey Kondogbia 30 meters from the Marseille goal.

In numerical superiority, the Marseillais will drive home the point a few minutes later thanks to a magnificent goal from Azzedine Ounahi. A technical festival on the right before landing a powerful right-footed shot into Steve Mandanda’s cage.

Iliman Ndiaye’s red card in the 67th minute of play and Amine Harit’s disallowed goal (78th) changed nothing for the rest of the match. This result could definitely launch Gennaro Gattuso’s Olympique de Marseille.
