Florian Thauvin made a poignant confession to CFC: he left OM in depression and he misses the club.
A decisive passer with Udinese this Sunday against Hellas Verona (3-3), Florian Thauvin gave a poignant interview to Canal Football Club, just before the broadcast of the match between Olympique de Marseille and Stade Rennais. The 2018 world champion never hid the fact that he had the Marseille club in his guts. On the other hand, his departure in 2021 remains a moment that he evokes with difficulty, in particular because it coincides with a complicated period for him in terms of mental health.
“I was very good (on the pitch, Editor’s note) when I left, but I admit that mentally I was not very well. It’s difficult and we come away a little worn out. When I made this choice to go to Mexico, I wanted to find a little more tranquility, less pressure from the supporters and the media. The depression, I didn’t realize it myself. When I went to see this person (a psychologist, Editor’s note) three months before my departure, at one point during the conversation, I burst into tears. I started crying and it felt good. This lady told me ‘you’re at a low stage, but it’s already a stage of depression’.
Without saying that he would like to play there again one day, the 30-year-old attacking midfielder did not say no either and admitted that OM was always in his thoughts.
“OM is a truly exceptional club, it’s a real chance to play there, it’s more difficult mentally, you come away exhausted. With all the clubs I’ve been to, maybe OM was the perfect club for me. Yes, I miss it.”
Florian Thauvin tries to regain confidence with Udine. Could it be an interesting solution during the next winter transfer window?
The testimony of Florian Thauvin this evening at #CFC is very touching.
